Quantic Dream, a developer that is known for some of the finest story driven Play Station exclusives who have developed masterpieces such as Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and recently released Detroit have been faithful to Play Station for over a decade. However, the company’s recent move which involved a fund raiser from a Chinese company raised some questions about their future endeavor, and made people wonder if the next game by this French studio would be an exclusive. Apparently, it won’t be.
According to Guillaume de Foundaumiere, the boss at Quantic Dream, the studio will be releasing games on the Play Station platform, however, the games will no longer be exclusive. This was further solidified by a statement that he talked about.
“We will continue to work on PlayStation, which is a platform we love and that we know very well, but we will also consider other platforms as we want to make our creations accessible to as many gamers as possible worldwide, regardless of the platform. This is definitely a shift for us after 12 years developing exclusively for PlayStation. We are confident we can make a smooth transition [to multi-platform development] while keeping the high level of quality that we target for our games.” arstechnica.com
This is certainly an exciting news for everyone who is waiting for a new Quantic Dream game, however, for those who are only here to see whether we have some information on the game, or not, the truth is that there is nothing available. As far as the studio founder David Cage’s statement is concerned, it is in too early of a stage to reveal anything. However, he did tease something. According to Cage, the studio is working on a new game engine that will definitely support multiple platforms. Additionally, he also said that the engine is way more impressive than anything we have done in the past.
According to Cage, Quantic Dream will continue to work on projects that are not just ambitious, but are also original. They plan on sticking true to the genre that they have mastered, but at the same time, they will be exploring new horizons as the time goes on.
Cage also talked about how he wants to turn Quantic Dream into a multi-franchise company, and how they want to make sure that they keep developing new games, as well as games in the genre that they have perfected.
The last game by Quantic Dream was Detroit: Become Human, the game was released back in May of 2018, and managed to receive great scores, and great sales as well. The game was a PS4 exclusive.
Quantic Dream going multi-platform is certainly a great idea. However, the thing that you need to know here is that we are still not sure if the older games will make their way to the multi-platforms as well or not. Still, we are certainly looking forward to having narrative driven gaming experiences on different platforms.
This step by Quantic Dream certainly goes to show that single-player, narrative driven games is not something that has ended, and it will continue to survive, as well as thrive in the modern day environment.
