WoW: Mount Changes Coming to Cataclysm

During Blizzard’s Twitter Dev Chat today one of the questions answered had to do with how mounts will work in Cataclysm, and the answer should make just about everyone happy.

Currently in game there are two types of “fast mounts”, the 280% speed variety and the 310% ones.

In most cases a 310% is a little harder to come by, usually including some feat and or luck to acquire.  280% mounts are everywhere.

The problem with this setup, quite simply, is that your mount collection turns into nothing more than a list of stuff you own.  Once you have a 310% mount, there’s no reason to ever bust out your older one.

To correct this problem, Blizzard says that in Cataclysm it plans to allow 310% to simply become another purchased tier of riding; aka every flyer you have will go 310% once you have purchased the upgrade.

While this might perturb some, I think the change is a great one; I have literally thirty mounts that are just rotting away in my bag at the moment.  And that bag is starting to smell.
