US Army announces licensing partnership with peripheral maker?

The US Army has licensed CTA Digital to make PS3 peripherals, allegedly.

Update: We’ve received confirmation from CTA Digital that this is the real deal.

It appears a PR rep may have jumped the gun over at CTA Digital and announced a licensing partnership with the US Army.

The press release has appeared on Movemodo, and has been subsequently republished on News 10, though there is no sign of it on CTA Digital’s site, nor is there a whisper of it on the Army’s PR page. However, it could well be that a member of CTA’s team have released it early as the the company’s last statement said “they will be announcing a major licensing partnership and unveiling that new product-line” at CES on the 10th January.

Further fuel for the rumours is the products that have appeared on the CTA website. This should act as a confirmation, but the US Army insignia has been so poorly Photoshopped it creates suspicion where before there was none.

So, if all the above rumour turns out to be correct we can look forward to some quite impressive new controllers coming to the PS3. In particular, the sniper rifle peripheral looks interesting. You can slot a move controller into the muzzle of the rifle giving you all the benefits of physical aiming, and the rifle itself can be stripped down to a shotgun style controller by removing the scope, rifle stock, and front grip.

We’ll update the post as soon as we get confirmation. Until then you can keep up to date with other Sony news here.

  1. I look forward to a line of PS3 controllers which can stop small arms fire but require daily cleaning and maintenance. . .
