New Turn Based Strategy Coming in 2010

Headup Games and Radon Labs, the folks behind The Dark Eye: Drakensang have announced a new title: Future Wars. Future Wars is a turned based strategy game that is working to renew the genre with three dimensional graphics and extensive modding potential.
The overall goal here, however, is not to be entirely innovative. Instead, Headup Games and Radon Labs is trying to go back to the roots of turn-based strategy with defined rules, engaging storytelling, and other classic gameplay mechanics. They want to update those traits with contemporary technology. Considering that the turn based genre has been slowly decaying over the past few years, a refreshing update is really necessary.
Turned based strategy still has a lot to offer video gamers, and despite the success of hybrid strategy games that mix real time and turn based elements, there is still an audience for a great turn based game. It should be interesting to see how Future Wars does when it comes to revitalizing the genre as it works towards its spring 2010 PC release.
