A job listing at Treyarch – developer behind Call of Duty: Black Ops – indicates they are recruiting a “team bringing our hugely successful game to a new console.” But what console is it?
Call of Duty developer Treyarch have put up a job listing on their website advertising for a Senior Software Engineer to join a team dedicated to bringing what can only be CoD to “a new console”.
The full description reads: “Treyarch is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer for a position on the team bringing our hugely successful game to a new console. This engineer will work in graphics, the content pipeline, optimization, and tools. He or she will bring breadth and depth in programming to solve a variety of problems and ship a high quality game.”
The fact that this is for an all new console is underlined by one of the job responsibilities: “Adapt graphics and other major systems in our engine to a new platform”. Further requirements include having shipped two or more console titles and having “more than 2 years experience working on Xbox 360 or PS3“.
So which new console is it? The most obvious answer would be the PlayStation Vita – for which a Call of Duty title has been pretty much confirmed – except that the Vita’s ARM architecture lends itself more to an expert in mobile systems than someone with deep experience on the 360 and PS3. The only other confirmed imminent console is the Wii U, whose similarity to the present consoles is a better fit.
Of course, that’s not going to stop us speculating that the position could be for a genuinely next-generation Call of Duty game on the Xbox 720 or PlayStation 4, is it?
