The very first Wasteland 2 gameplay video has arrived
Sean Cargle February 9, 2013 - 10:41 pmNot only is this the very first gameplay video for Wasteland 2, but there is a delicious fourteen minutes of it that shows off various aspects of this post-apocalyptic RPG.

Wasteland 2 was one of the most successful Kickstarters with nearly $3 million in funding from backers. It was warmly received because it is being developed by InXile Entertainment, who is made up of experienced and long time developers, like Brian Fargo who helped make Fallout 1 & 2, Bard’s Tale, Baldur’s Gate and many other games, but people are also dying to see an old-school RPG with modern graphics and mechanics. For more general information on the game check out one of our many posts about Wasteland 2, but this post is all about the very first gameplay that they revealed today. It is seventeen minutes long (fourteen minutes of actual gameplay) and it shows off the conversation system, the UI, combat, enemies, object interaction and more as Development Director Chris Keenan explains just about everything that is going on visually.
This is the very first gameplay video and with it InXile has said they a little more than halfway through development, so the majority of what is shown isn’t final and there are many elements yet to be shown. Specifically they have said that these elements aren’t represented yet:
- Minimal particle effects
- Minimal sound
- Mini-map not working
- Inventory, logbook and other character screens not shown
- Not all skills (in and out of combat) being represented
- No world map movement
- It needs more messaging in the UI
- And not a comprehensive list of all the combat variables
With all of that said, check out the video below and enjoy. This isn’t an official Youtube upload for the video, for the moment their official upload is on Vimeo here, but it is the full length and seems to be unedited. If you are looking just for the gameplay, skip to 2:35 in.

It’s looking really good – proper old school turn-based action, but doesn’t seem to get to slowed down. Rather glad I backed this one.
