The spooky and pumpkin filled Shadow of the Mad King event for Guild Wars 2 begins tonight

News: Every MMORPG has its own Halloween themed event, but this Guild Wars 2 Halloween event is rather large with four tiered events that bring plenty of tricks and treats.

I’m a sucker for everything Halloween and this might be the first October in a couple of years that I’m not playing a MMORPG that will give me the chance to see their world transformed into a spook filled splash of orange. Then today I see Guild Wars 2 coming along with a mysterious Halloween event called Shadow of the Mad King that once again makes me wish I had jumped into this MMORPG, like BeefJack’s Greg Giddens recommended last month.

This Halloween themed event for Guild Wars 2 involves an old folktale about a crazy and tyrannical Krytan king who was slain by his own people. No one has seen the spirit of this king for 250 years, but something is different this year and players are tasked with figuring out why strange energies fill the air this Halloween. The first Act starts tonight, October 22nd, with the second Act arriving on October 26th, the third Act on October 28th and Act four, the final Act, on October 31st.

Once Act 1 begins tonight the great cities of Tyria will be filled with treats, costumes and secrets for players to find. You will be able to transform yourself into monsters, buy yourself creepy little pets, purchase costumes that grant you peculiar skills, find Halloween themed weapon skins in Black Lion Chest and more that has yet to be revealed. It is unclear how deep the story portion of this event will be or how much of the world will be transformed, but the new trailer for Shadow of the Mad King implies that everything will overly decked out with pumpkins, jack-o-lanterns, floating candles and cauldrons. Check out that trailer below and for more on the event take a look at the Guild Wars 2 event page.
