The Guardian Guides Older Gamers

Posted May 15, 2010 by Travis Barbour in Gamer Culture, News.

The Guardian newspaper have suggested some games that can be enjoyed by older gamers and they’ve included some curious options.

The column was created by the publication’s Computer Editor, Jack Schofield, who was replying to a question from a reader who goes by the name of ‘JackG’. He was looking for games that are “more suited to a pensioner who lives alone.”

To summarise, Schofield suggests Civilization, Sim City, Football Manager, Peggle, Bejewelled and Plants vs Zombies as being suitable. Whilst the games can be played at a reasonable pace, the pressures of football management; fending off natural disasters in a simulated world and waging war between the undead and the world’s floral offerings may not appeal to all pensioners. Here’s to hoping that JackG is not your average pensioner.

If you’re an elderly gamer, looking to get a grandparent involved or worried about a future where your reflexes will leave you bottom of the rankings in the shooter market, at least you know where to start looking when that trigger finger fails you.
