Industry analyst Michael Pachter expects downloads of the Grand Theft Auto IV expansion The Lost and Damned to top two million by the end of October. So it looks like even more Xbox owners will enjoy the splendor of polygon-based dong. Oh, and it is splendorous.
Microsoft previously issued a gloating press release saying that The Lost and Damned broke all previous records for DLC, but they didn’t offer any specifics like number of downloads or generated revenue. Nor did they provide any context by telling us how successful DLC has been in the past. But Pachter’s job is to dig deep into companies’ financial records to determine whether their stock deserves his company’s recommendation. He believes TLaD has already moved over a million digital copies, and the long-term prospects of the GTA brand make publisher Take-Two a hot commodity.
In addition to making download predictions, Pachter also believes that the next full GTA retail game will be released in 2010. No word yet, though, on whether the next game will be an extension like Vice City and San Andreas or a full-fledged Grand Theft Auto V. I’d bet on the former, but you probably shouldn’t trust anything I say. I lost most of my money in the early ’90s by investing it in Crystal Pepsi. Seemed like such a good idea at the time!
