The Astronauts’ first game “hard to compare to anything else out there”, not a shooter
James Archer October 16, 2012 - 1:28 pmNews: The Astronauts – a new independent studio composed of former People Can Fly devs – say their first game won’t be a shooter, promising it will be “unique.”
For ex-People Can Fly devs Adrian Chmielarz, Andrzej Paznanski, and Michal Koiseradzki, their experience in crafting Bulletstorm and Gears of War: Judgment was enough to spark public musings that their new indie studio – The Astronauts – would be producing a shooter as its first game. That’s not the case, according to the company blog, where they write: “Guys, we are not making a shooter. Let us repeat that: we are not making a shooter.” So it most likely won’t be a shooter.
The Astronauts, who evidently aren’t too fond of bylines, do elaborate that their initial title will be a little unusual – the unannounced game’s supposed lack of contemporaries was apparently a factor in the founders choosing to self-fund, rather than heading to the likes of Kickstarter for crowd-monies:
“It’s one thing to get people excited about a remake or a sequel of the game they loved in the past (nothing wrong with that!), and it’s another to get significant following for the project that’s kind of hard to compare to anything else out there. Not that we’re doing a crazy, experimental game no one ever thought of, but still, we feel it’s unique.”
We’ll be keeping an eye on what The Astronauts get up to.
