Takedown reaches Kickstarter goal, collects $221, 833 in total

News: Last night, with just a couple of hours to spare, Christian Allen’s Takedown reached its Kickstarter goal of $200, 000.

A few days ago, it wasn’t looking good for Takedown. The tactical shooter from Halo: Reach designer Christian Allen had only just surpassed the halfway point of its Kickstarter funding goal, but a surge of last-minute interest has helped propel it into the realm of ‘funded’.

Speaking on the Kickstarter page, Allen described how Takedown would change shooters, offering in-depth planning that has been replaced by action set-pieces in modern times. He said: ” In recent years, shooters have become homogenized. Now most shooters follow the same model of big set pieces, regenerating health, linear levels, and ‘cinematic experiences.’

“The realistic tactical shooters with in-depth planning have almost entirely disappeared in recent years. This project, working title TAKEDOWN, aims to change that. ”

Takedown is just the latest Kickstarter project from an established industry name, but has struggled a lot more than the others. Brian Fargo‘s Wasteland 2 kickstarter is still ongoing, having so far generated $1.8million, meeting its target with ease. Allen has followed Fargo’s advice, and subscribed to his ‘Kick it Forward’ model - 5% of the profits from the finished Takedown will be used to fund other Kickstarter projects.
