SWTOR ‘Safety Dance’ exploit being removed tomorrow

Bioware are patching out the ‘Safety Dance’ exploit that made players invincible whilst using social emotes in SWTOR.

It’s a dark day for gaming. Bioware have told the Star Wars: The Old Republic community that they’re working on a patch that “preventing social emotes (like /getdown) from interfering with combat.” The patch is scheduled to be applied in the wee hours for the Americans, which is around 8AM for us working in GMT.

We wrote about the exploit yesterday, but for those of you who haven’t come across it, it’s a bug that let players escape damage in combat by activating the dance animation. Any attacks that were locked onto a player at the time would lose their target.

It could be used in PvP, NPCs, or even against the game’s boss characters. Whilst dancing, waving, bowing, or whatever emote they’d chosen, the player would still receive the healing effects of buffs and items. So tanks could use it just before death, regenerate a bit of health and jump back into the fray.

You can see it in action with a little dubbing action here.

Sadly, these times of dancing the pain away are coming to an end. You have 22 hours left Old Republicans, use them well.
