Steam Workshop boasts over 2,600 Skyrim mods, 2 million downloads

Bethesda have released some statistics on Skyrim’s Steam Workshop integration, claiming over 2,000,000 user-made mods have been downloaded.

In a press release, Bethesda have finally confirmed rumours that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is quite popular. Focusing on the release of the Skyrim Creation Kit mod tools and subsequent teaming-up with Valve to showcase mods on the Steam Workshop, the document is keen to point out that PC users have downloaded mods from the service over 2 million times. So, yeah, quite popular.

What’s more impressive, however, is the number of mods in the Workshop itself. After less than two weeks, Skyrim boasts over 2,660 submissions. For comparison, Team Fortress 2 – the only other game that uses the Workshop (albeit in a different manner – creators use it to submit weapon and item designs to be considered for inclusion in an official patch) – has less than 1,000 more, despite being part of the Workshop since it was introduced in October 2011. That’s a lot of mods, and a lot of enterprising modders, to appear in such a short timeframe. Excitingly, the Steam Workshop homepage indicates more games will be implementing it. Here’s hoping for even more modding communities to blossom.
