In-game test footage for Chris Roberts’ Star Citizen has been released that shows off the game’s artificial intelligence in action.
On SR’s official website, Roberts says that the above video is early work that demonstrates the A.I.’s ability to do squad formations, obey commands and engage in dogfights.
The dogfighting, according to Roberts, is completely A.I-driven, and the A.I. itself will be ”the most sophisticated” A.I. Roberts has ever worked on for any of his games. “The Squadron 42 / Star Citizen pilot AI will be the most sophisticated AI that I’ve attempted on any of my games,” says Roberts. “My goal is to take the ideas that I pioneered with Wing Commander and later games; distinct personalities, dynamic learning, signature moves to next level with the power of modern CPUs.”
That power, he adds, will also help him make cinema-quality visual effects and that there will be “significant” work done on laser effects and explosions, which, in the video, are only “placeholders.” Additionally, some “very cool” shield effects are being worked on as well.
And not only that, but the space environment already looks gorgeous!
