Bethesda have admitted that they knew about the Skyrim PS3 lag problem before release – but didn’t make moves to fix it because they thought only ‘a small percentage’ would be affected.

Bethesda knew that Skyrim might be laggy on your PS3 – but they thought you’d be one of only ‘a small percentage’ affected by the problem.
The company chose not to make moves to fix the issue pre-release because they thought it would be isolated to a relatively small number of cases, Bethesda’s Todd Howard revealed today.
The game’s memory problem was not caused by save files, as many had speculated, but as a direct result of the order in which players chose to tackle the game’s many activities, he said.
‘A small percentage’ of the millions of PS3 copies Skyrim has shifted, however, is still quite a large number. A lot of people aren’t going to be too happy with the comments Howard made to Kotaku.
