Western gamers looking for self punishment on the Wii should look no further than Shiren the Wanderer, which is being released by Atlus stateside in February.  As part of the announcement, the game’s official site is now live as well.

Shiren is a long running Japanese series that falls under the rouge-like category of Rpgs.  Basically, an action Rpg mixed with some heavy dungeon exploration.  Think Chocobo Dungeon or something of that ilk.

The series appeared for the first time in America last year on the DS with Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer.

A longtime hallmark of the series has been it’s difficulty; death results in harsh punishment, and you often feel like the game hates you.  It is however, strangely addicting.

The Wii installment has already been released in Japan, so gamers who can’t wait for the official English site to be updated can find plenty of tidbits elsewhere.
