RUMOUR : Metal Gear Solid 4 – Extended Ending Coming in December?

UPDATE: Since I posted this rumour, it has somehow managed to spread around the internet at a very quick pace, the original story was first picked up by MaxConsole which was spotted by CVG and then reported on on Kotaku and Beefjack. CVG then contacted Konami and they were told that this rumour will never happen, but this line is used by games companies all the time as Take Two and Rockstar Games stated shortly after the release of Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3/360) that the game would never be released on PC yet it is coming shortly. So Konami might be telling a little white lie on this denial.

mgs4fear2.jpgShortly after the release of Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3) on 12th June 2008 a rumour surfaced saying that a new extended ending would be released exactly six months after the games release, no details were mentioned about what this extended ending would contain, but at the end of MGS4 Old Snake says that he has six months left to live.

So six months of Snake’s life from 12th June 2008 would bring it to 12th December 2008 which is exactly when this extended ending is rumoured to be released, expect this to be released as an update patch that you will have to download via the PlayStation Network or it could even be a code that unlocks the extended ending as the video could already be on the MGS4 Blu-Ray disc.

But until this information is confirmed by Konami or Kojima Productions it will remain as a rumour and unconfirmed, even though this would make a good new feature to the game.

Other new features that people would like to see (including me) are:

  • New Co-op Game(s) (Maybe a Seperate Storyline/Gameplay featuring 2-8 players)
  • Trophy Support
  • Boss Suvival Mode
  • Demo Theater
  • New Weapons
  • New Items
  • VR Missions
  • Raiden Game (Maybe a Storyline/Gameplay to take place between MGS2 and MGS4 – 5 year gap)
  • Snake Game (Maybe a Storyline/Gameplay to take place between MGS2 and MGS4 – 5 year gap)

  1. As long as it makes up for the ending then I’ll be glad if this does come to pass.
    Personally, I want Liquid alive!!!! though doubt thats going to happen.

    Anyways this is what Konami have to do if possible:
    1. Trophy Support.
    2. Allow ppl from South Africa to purchase the DLC.
    3. Boss Survival.
    4. VR/ ALternate/ Snake missions.

  3. This may sound a little gay, but I hope snake gets younger. That somehow his Gen’s will regenerate back to normal. I love the MGS series, so what I want is that snake keeps on fighting. Or What would be nice to see that during his 6 months life span hi and raiden trains a girl to become the next female snake. Personally I hope snake keeps on living hie deserves it. Or maybe the original big boss had more children than only one and that person is gonna be the next or something like that. Can’t wait to see what it will be. Oh … and I hope it will be free because I don’t have a credit card.

  4. you dont need a credit card to make purchases on PSN. just go to a retail store like gamestop, eb games, toys r us, etc. and but a voucher. like in 10 and 20 dollar increments.

  5. I think the original ending was great. Nothing wrong with it. No matter what they come out with on the 12th, if at all, I’ll be content with because everything’s over. The main story has been explained and anything else that comes up isn’t really all the important. I’ll get it no matter what the update is and play it like the loyal fan I am. Kudos to Konami whether its true or not.

  6. Yeah i heard that rumor only a month after it was released. Personally, i agreed with Kojimas orginal ending where Snake and Otacon are both executed by the government, or even leaving it of when Snake shoots himself. However, this ending could be awesome as well. I really dont want Snake alive, its not like I hate him, hes the only fiction character that I have ever come close to shed a tear for but its more epic if he dies.

I hope that this extended ending change a few things i expected … Big Boss’s voice should have been done by David Hayter, the score needed more of the original MGS music we all have come to love, like MGS3′s ending. Cut scenes or minigames explaining what happened to key characters between MGS2 and MGS4. Big Boss teaching CQC to the “one” who will replace Snake. A Metal Gear Death Match, like the one with Rex and Ray but with all the MG in all the games plus all the variations that Snake and Otacon destroyed arround the world. Face-Camo from all the Snakes we know, like “Naked Snake with or w/o eye patch”. Desguises like all the sneaking suits from all the series. Demo Theater. A “Big Boss’s boot camp” trainig game where you’ll play as a VERY young Snake learning all moves and CQC, after beating all tests a special cut scene in the demo theater will be unlocked featuring B.Boss training Snake or their first Battle in Outer Heaven (like in MGS VR missions unlocking Ray’s first appearence). Raiden joining Philantrophy. Mini Sneaking missions destroing Metal Gear variations. Big Boss and Snake’s Funeral. All the truth in MGS history revealed to the public. Otacon rebuilding/modifing Rex for defense only. A new Metal Gear beyond Ray! Cut scenes from past games rendered in PS3 engine. Deleted levels (playable of course). A new threat rising ….. but leave it open so anything can happen!

  9. I agree 100% with Perfect Snake.. His Ideas are brilliant, just what i was gonna write :) I’d really like more Face Camos of all The Snakes in the series, Twin Snake’s Liquid Snake, Mgs2′s Solidus Snake, Mgs3′s Naked Snake with & without bandana/eyepatch.. Mgs4′s Old Big Boss.. maybe a normal Mgs4 Raiden (like he was shown in the ending).. All The Sneaking Suits from the Mgs Series.. Including Mgs1′s, Mgs2′s (without pillover or whatever lol..), Mgs3′s basic olive drab suit.. And also i would like a totally different Old Snake face camo, like he was shown in the First TGS 05 Trailer.. He looked more similar to solid snake, and in my opinion he was cooler.. :) Mgs4 is already my favorite Ps3 game, but if all these things were released.. I’d be in heaven! Oh and btw, last thursday’s Extra under the music section.. War has Changed Track.. Was awesome!! I waited for that track to be released about 4 years.. from the first TGS 05 Trailer!! Mgs FTW! xD

  10. one other thing, a Raiden / Snake mission as an expansion with some VR missions (system wasn’t introduced maybe 5 years ago lol..) would be a great idea! Oh and For God’s Sake! Please make any Downloads from the MGO Shop or whatever Konami shop able to get money from MALTA & GOZO, and all the other countries who can’t buy from it!! Don’t think the hardcore fans are just from the countries who accept money, as some of them barely passed the games and are *uckin noobs when it comes to the Story!!! IMHO, i deserve my country, Malta & Gozo, to buy from the MGO Shop because i’m a huuuuuge FANN!! I know the story by heart, all the games’ scripts by heart!! I passed them all over 50 times!! And Mgs is my favorite Series! I even bought the EU Limited edition of Mgs4, aswell as the Japanese Limited Edition of Mgs4 (cause of the stunning Japanese Dubbing of the game..).   16. i think liquids alive , it wasnt liquid in mgs4 it was ossalote, being spiked with nano machines to convince him he was liquid. just like big boss liquid didnt die.after shadow moses he went into hiding , now big boss is dead liquid can finnally get his body!!! aaahhh

  18. Oh man. I’m almost off my feet right now. Even though December 12th has passed along time ago, I think Hideo Kojima can still think about the Extended Ending idea or some of the cool ideas some of the guys have suggested.
    Some other’s suggestions were really cheesy. I felt stupid reading them Nonetheless, keep it up!
