Resistance 3 sales down over 50% compared to Resistance 2

Resistance 3 sales are down more than 50% compared to Resistance 2, after it only managed to sell 180,000 units during the first month of sales.

As I’m sure any youngest child can attest to, being constantly compared to your older sibling is as annoying as it is inescapable. Resistance 3 is bound to be feeling youngest child syndrome right about now, as in the first month of sales it sold less than half of what Resistance 2 sold in the same period.

Eurogamer reports that the third game in the Resistance series sold 180,000 units in its first month compared to Resistance 2′s 385,000 first month sales. That’s a pretty big drop, especially for a game that received a more than healthy pre-release marketing campaign. Resistance 2 ended up selling 3 million copies worldwide, and Sony will be hoping that Resistance 3 is simply taking the Tortoise and Hare approach.

Sony and Insomniac Games have the right to feel a bit hard done by by those sales figures, as Resistance 3 is a great game – just read BeefJack’s review for further proof of that. However, there was a lot of multiplayer-breaking issues when the game first released, and it’s possible word of these issues put a lot of people off buying the game.

Whatever the case may be, I highly recommend checking out the PlayStation 3 exclusive Sci-Fi shooter if you haven’t yet, and remember to follow all the latest Resistance 3 news here at BeefJack.
