Realtime Worlds has went on record to state that their upcoming open-world, multiplayer shooter ‘All Points Bulletin’ might not rub well with critics, even saying that they are preparing for a ‘Mixed’ reception.
CEO Dave Jones claimed to CVG that while the game has received positive feedback from the press, expectations for the final product won’t follow suit with the type of experience they’re aiming for.
It’s always hard when you create something new as it requires a natural learning curve. Also because APB is online multi-player focused, it’s best played as intended, with 60 to 100 people in the city with you. For these same reasons I expect the reviews to be mixed.
If someone approaches it treating it like a single player online GTA, they will be disappointed. Bring a few friends, make a group, and come for some fun online action then I expect to see a good review. Any game that can keep you and your friends entertained for hours and hours is in my book doing something right. You don’t need an epic story single player experience to achieve that though
Let’s hope this doesn’t act as a self-fulfilling prophecy when APB hits shelves next month in North America.
