Randy Pitchford: ‘Wii U is perfect fit for Aliens Colonial Marines’
Jamie Donnelly June 5, 2012 - 8:53 pmNews: Randy Pitchford has described the Wii U as a perfect fit for Aliens Colonial Marines, praising the TouchPad controller.

The Nintendo conference was very unexciting and left me confused about the purpose of the Wii U and why I would actually want to own one. Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford doesn’t agree with me, and thinks his game Aliens Colonial Marines is the perfect fit for for Nintendo’s new home console.
Pitchford could barely contain himself as he doted upon Nintendo and the Wii U, throwing out praise and superlatives wherever he could fit them in. “As a self-respecting videogamer I have unfathomable love for Nintendo and the games Nintendo’s offered us over the years, so it was really exciting for us to be briefed on the Wii U,” he said. “What’s most exciting about the Wii U is the screen.
“The motion tracker can come up and scan the environment, and I can literally move it around and detect left, and detect right, and this is really cool when you’re first playing the game, as you’re kind of focused and immersed in your virtual reality world, and suddenly you hear a ‘bong bong bong’ [Randy actually made a radar-type noise at this point, but that's hard to translate into words] and it’s coming from down there, and you look down and you see a blip. And this is just scratching the surface – with the nature of this universe, and this game, it’s a perfect fit. ”
So there you have it, Pitchford is very much convinced by the Wii U’s tech capabilities, and certainly wouldn’t be saying that just to sell a game on a platform that he now regrets developing on entirely. Nobody’s that cynical, right?
