RAGE racing is mainly optional – id

RAGE is a first-person shooter/racer hybrid, but according to id Software’s Tim Willits, most of the racing part is non-mandatory…

id Software’s RAGE hits next month, and with it we’ll have the opportunity to combine high-octane first-person shooting with foot-to-the-floor racing around a huge world.

But according to creative director Tim Willits, much of the racing side of the game is optional.

In fact, of the ’25 or so’ races included in the game, you’ll only be required to complete two of them.

“It’s actually quite difficult [to balance the elements] to be honest with you,” he said, adding: “we don’t knock you over the head with the racing.”

“You’re only required to do two races in the game but we have 25 or so that you can do that are totally optional.”

It seems id are stressing that it’s a game that can, to an extent, be played how you like.

Speaking in an interview with Train2Game, Willits said: “I’ve seen people play it all sorts of different ways.

“Some people like using the pistol, some people like engineering items, some people like using a sniper rifle for every mission or they try.

“So it’s really cool that you are not going to play RAGE the same way that your buddy plays. You’ll have the same mission but you’ll play it differently.”

We played the first few hours of RAGE and came away with mixed impressions. Have a read of our hands-on RAGE preview!
