Minecraft developer Markus ‘Notch’ Persson has allegedly offered $13 million to fund a potential Psychonauts 2.

Last week, an interview followed by a Twitter conversation led to a surprise offer: Markus ‘Notch’ Persson, of Minecraft fame, approached Double Fine’s Tim Schafer with the view to funding a sequel to cult classic Psychonauts.
But it’s only now that the scale of this offer is beginning to emerge.
According to reports on Kotaku, Schafer warned Persson that the game wouldn’t be cheap to fund – assuming it cost the same as the original, it would cost $13 million. But, Schafer said, Notch replied: “Yeah, I can do that.”
Is what initially appeared to be a flippant remark on a social networking site about to become a big-budget videogame sequel? For reals? Only time will tell.
It certainly seems possible that Schafer will have more luck pitching his game to a self-confessed Psychonauts fanboy than he has pitching it to publishers.
The original game was critically acclaimed, but sales were lower than hoped. Talk of a sequel has been met with extreme caution by publishers, who deemed the game ‘too obscure’, says Kotaku.
Everything’s from Schafer’s side at the moment – Notch and his company Mojang are keeping quiet – but outside appearances would suggest both parties are genuinely up for making this happen. Fingers crossed, eh?
