PSN Subscription Fees May Arrive Soon;’ a headline that is sure to make at least some Sony fanboys feel at least a little queasy.
We often look to E3 as a sanctuary of good news and speculation-crushing announcements and while we would be perfectly licensed to do so, it is on this rare occasion that we face the possibility of Sony turning to us and saying ‘pay up.’
It’s not all doom and gloom however, as the source who has sparked these rumours has said that if fees were implemented, they would not apply to online play. Instead subscribers would receive several still unconfirmed features within the Playstation Network and a free PSN game every month, all for £50 a year.
Is it just me or is this starting to sound like a good deal?
It has to be said, the decision to keep their trademark ‘free-to-play online’ policy whilst making money from customers who are happy as a result of the free games they were given (Digital games which would cost Sony hardly anything to give away) would be an effective way of staying competitive with Xbox Live, which is often slated for charging its users to play online.
Are you happy paying for the PSN or do you think Sony is going too far? I smell undecidedness.
