PlayStation Vita accessory transforms handheld into Dual Shock

Japanese Company release ridiculous Vita accessory, turning the Sony handheld into a Dual Shock.

When you first grip the PlayStation Vita, you soon realise that not only does it look expensive, it’s a considerably large piece of hardware. There’s no question Sony’s portable will challenge all pockets of socially acceptable jean compartments.

So when the handheld launches February 22nd, why not make it a more awkward device? Introducing Japan Deiteru’s ‘Assist Grip’:

At 1,380 Yen (£11.51) you can look the coolest person on the train to work- guaranteed!

But seriously, won’t the angle of the handles make it difficult to press the Vita’s higher-placed buttons? And what about the touch screen on the front? Or back?!

Add-ons like this make me question, as a society, what do we want from our handheld consoles? The PSP didn’t perform to the level of Nintendo’s DS due to its disturbing similarities to console gaming. The PlayStation Portable just can’t compete with a luxury home entertainment system. The difference was the DS offered a unique experience you couldn’t receive anywhere else.

So how interested are you in the PlayStation Vita? Do you think it will be a success or stumble like the 3DS? And would you ever purchase a ridiculous handheld accessory like the ‘Assist Grip’?

  1. It wouldn’t be a handheld system without an array of wildly impracticable third-party tat to strap to it!
