Players create synthesized music in puzzle game Fract

News: Puzzle game Fract has players making music as they solve problems, all in a clean cut retro computing look.

I’m not musical. Never have been, and frankly never will be. But that doesn’t stop my optimistic little spirit ballooning with hope whenever I see something that makes music-making look easy. And Fract is one such thing.

A puzzler ‘in the vein of Myst’, Fract has you rebuilding a ruined world. You operate control panels that move large blocks about the world space which play notes as they go. Hmm, if only there were an audio visual way I could explain this:

Doesn’t it just look gorgeous? All those clean lines on the models, the rich purples and blues. Yum. More importantly, both aspects of the game look promising. On the one hand the world-exploration puzzle stages (though the one on show was exceedingly simple, likely for demo purposes) and the synth board.

They way they talk about progressively building a player’s knowledge fill my heart with hope that one day I can woo people with a synth serenade.
