Pathfinder Online easily surpasses $1 million Kickstarter target
Michael Johnson January 15, 2013 - 5:28 pmRemember that article from yesterday, the one with the doom and gloom headline about the Pathfinder Online Kickstarter? Whoops.
Sometimes words are disgusting, especially when you’re made to eat them. But on some occasions you’re only too happy to tuck in and that’s certainly the case in this instance.
Contrary to my prediction of a struggle, Pathfinder Online’s Kickstarter ended in style, finishing at $1,091,194, well over their $1 million target. The developers Goblinworks Inc. have updated the Kickstarter page and as you might expect, the tone is one of elation.
They had this to say “Awed, humbled, utterly blown away by your love and support. Words fail us. Having reached our funding goal is such an amazing achievement. We’ll be the 10th most funded videogame project in Kickstarter history. We are showing the videogame industry that there’s a place for a fantasy sandbox MMO, FUNDED BY ITS PLAYERS. This is history-making stuff here, people. And you are a part of it.”
Pathfinder sounds like an incredibly ambitious project and whether they can find the success of a sandbox title like Eve Online will depend on how they can engage the growing community around the project, the reaction to their Kickstarter suggests they’re off to a good start!

It does seem like the number of pledges often tends to spike at the last minute, so I wasn’t too surprised to see this.
