Famously outspoken industry analyst Michael Pachter has made some bold claims about Nintendo’s yet-to-be-announced successor to the Wii: it’s going to fail, no matter what, he said.
Speaking on GameTrailers’ Bonus Round series, Pachter said that Nintendo’s failure to keep up with the tech of its competitors will have caused lasting damage for the company.
“Nintendo can’t let Microsoft have a 20 million install base of next-gen consoles and they’re still in the last generation,” he said, claiming that it’s now too late for Nintendo to introduce an HD version of the Wii.
And as for a full-blown Wii successor? Doomed to failure regardless, said Pachter.
“Clearly, any of the three console manufacturers can advance the technology to the next level and have facial recognition, have Milo that actually works, that kind of stuff. I mean, they could do it, but do you think any of the third parties are gonna support that?
“I don’t see EA, who’s barely profitable, saying: ‘We had such a great experience with the Wii last time, we’re gonna dedicate $500 million of R&D to make facial recognition stuff.’ It ain’t gonna happen.”
He concluded: “So without third-party support, I think the Wii 2, if it’s truly a revolutionary device, will fail.” Ouch.

This is from the dude that said RTS games fail because they are single player and turn based.

Wii:HD is going to sell millions and turn massive profits.
It will be competing against Kinect, but the market is massive and non exclusive, especially if the Wii hits a lower price point.

Well the thing is, the reason the Wii always falls behind is because it’s always the first to come up with stuff. They probably could make it better, but the Move is a technologically superior device because it came out much later. And it’s not like many games will come out for it anyway. Still, the Wii got old pretty quickly, and hopefully Nintendo will learn from that mistake.

Hmmm the Wii 2 failing… yet the first Wii is still selling extremely well. The Wii may have slightly worse technology but it usually is cheaper and also who knows what the Wii 2 will do? Also graphics don’t make the game
