Several companies have tried to emulate Microsoft and Sony’s success with their achievement and trophy system, particularly in the field of mobile gaming, but it looks like one front runner has started to pull away from the pack.
OpenFeint has long been one of the most successful of these networks, offering achievements, friends lists and online leaderboards across a whole slew of games on Android and iOS devices, and now develop report the company are implenting a new network for their service that’ll bring both of these operating systems together, as well as Windows Mobile 7.
This is a pretty big deal, really – as develop say, it’s as if 360 and PS3 owners were using the same rankings and lobby system for cross-platform games, and it even seems as if the network will permit multiplayer in some cases, though details seem to be pretty slim right now. I guess OpenFeint are hoping mobile gamers just can’t get along.

Cross-platform achivements and leaderboards is superb idea. I was wondering when some implement this. They can success even more if they expand for more platforms.
