No PS4 announcement in 2012, suggests Sony boss

Sony America CEO Jack Tretton says it would be ‘distracting’ for Sony to reveal the PS4 in 2012, saying the company would do better to focus on the PS Vita.

Sony Computer Entertainment America CEO Jack Tretton hopes the company won’t decide to reveal its next console in 2012. An announcement of the PS4 would be ‘distracting’ from their current focus on the PS Vita, he said.

Tretton also confirmed that the company is committed to existing platforms at this moment in time, and would be unlikely to reveal anything new until that situation changed.

“Right now, we’re focused on PlayStation 3, and I’ve got another platform to get out the door in seven days,” he told IGN.

“So I don’t want to be thinking about trying to launch new technology any time soon. I want to focus all our energy on our console business, which is really just hitting its stride, and Vita, which really deserves a dedicated push from us.”

Sony’s PS4 has been rumoured considerably for a reveal at this year’s E3 expo, which takes place in June. Sony have already stated that they have no plans to reveal the console then.
