Next-gen consoles ‘not a challenge’ to PC gaming – Alienware

Posted October 24, 2011 by Lewis Denby in News.

The Xbox 720 and PS4 will not present a threat to PC gaming, according to gaming rig manufacturers Alienware – who say the PC gaming community isn’t going anywhere any time soon.

With rumours of Xbox 720 (allegedly dubbed ‘Xbox Next’) and PS4 abound, the next generation of games consoles seems just about ready to rear its head, perhaps hitting the market as little as a year from now. And, as with every generation, there are discussions about what this means for PC gaming. Will those who currently play on a PC stick with their preferred format, or be tempted away by the shininess of new, accessible machines? According to PC gaming rig manufacturers Alienware, the next gen isn’t likely to have a detrimental effect to the personal computer business.

“The games are avaialble on both PC and console sides,” Alienware’s James Griffiths told BeefJack. “There is a large community that uses PC gaming which I don’t see going away.”

Asked whether the company felt that the next generation could dampen their business, Griffiths said: “No, I don’t see it as a challenge in that area. We deliver what people look for in Alienware.”

Earlier this month, Ignite Game Technologies released information that suggested PC gaming is nowhere near the ‘dying format’ it’s often described as. In fact, it’s apparently on the rise. So that’s good to know.

But the new machines are coming. Coming, we tell you. Make sure you keep up to date with all the latest PS4 and ‘Xbox 720′ news.

  1. I hope PC gaming never dies out. That’s how I got into video games. I do own all of the current gen consoles, and some genre games I prefer to play on them. At the end of the day though I always seems to come back to the PC. Superior graphics, mods, keyboard, and mouse FTW!
