Next Assassin’s Creed to feature new hero, new setting

New character. New setting. The next entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchises ditches Connor and the American Revolution despite strong sales.

AssCreed 3

The next game in the Assassin’s Creed franchise will feature a new hero and a new setting, Polygon reports, despite the fact sales for Assassin’s Creed 3 have exceeded 12 million. Ubisoft chief Yves Guillemot made the announcements to investors, where he also confirmed the next Assassin’s Creed game would launch in Ubisoft’s upcoming financial year (April 2013 – March 2014).

“We are delighted and proud to announce today that in financial year ’14, we will introduce an all-new Assassin’s Creed hero, within an all new team and time period,” said Guillemot. “We expect it to be another major leap forward for the franchise.”

“It is the benefit of multiple teams working on multiple chapters of the product, each getting several years to make their versions of an Assassin’s Creed game.”

“I think we’re doing better at it now just because we’ve had more time to plan,” Guillemot added. “All the games are getting more time, more than perhaps they have done in the past.”

The series is in desperate need of a hiatus, but if we are getting one a year, the First World War this time, please.

I agree, there was a sense of that in AC3, thankfully the technology level with the slow reloads didn’t make it game breaking. At the very least a WW1 AC would require a fair amount of gameplay changes.

Personally, I’d like more of Haytham during the Napoleonic Wars. Considering his background could be an interesting story too. Of course, that means more Desmond and that might prove problematic right now.
