New Xbox dev kit reduces the cost of making an indie game

Microsoft has announced a new, cheaper Xbox Development Kit, which should cut down on the costs of creating, testing and distributing an indie game via Xbox Live.

The new kit, which is offered at a significantly reduced price from its predecessor, is available immediately.

“Microsoft is known in the industry for providing easy-to-use tools that allow developers to create high quality games without a huge time investment,” said Microsoft’s Pete Isensee, reported by Gamasutra.

“Now we’re offering those tools at a lower cost to reduce their monetary investment as well.”

  1. Previous Xbox360 dev-kit was about 10000$ (unoffcial info). I wonder what means microsoft words “at a lower cost”.

    • I would advise your information to be ‘official’ if you would make such proclamations. If the costs are being reduced, that is good no matter what.

  2. Me personally, I’m happy to hear that the dev kit costs are going down, that hopefully will only help the quality and variety of games on live increase.
