RAGE, the upcoming and highly anticipated FPS from id Software has released some new footage designed to show off the array of weaponry to be used in game. Check out the video below:
Unfortunately the load-out thus far seems fairly bland; the only real stand-out being the ‘Wingstick’ which is highly reminiscent of a weapon from Mad Max. The crossbow looks fairly stylish, and the clip hints at a variety of ammo with different effects (56 secs), yet I can’t help but feel like I’ve seen something similar in Bioshock. The pistol seems something of a irregularity, useful at both long (15 secs) and short (1 min 31 secs) range. In an earlier clip found here, there is use of an RC car that’s loaded with C4, which, once again, has seemingly been lifted straight out of another game (CoD Black Ops).
In all other accounts the game is looking spectacular. The environments are beautifully rendered and the enemies are terrifying and quirky. Watching this clip makes me envisage this game as a kind of Borderlands re-boot, if they stripped away the humour and poured in buckets of grim reality. Still, I am hoping that RAGE will undergo further transformation before its release, adding in some new weapons and further focus on enemy movement as well as their AI. As shown and discussed in this clip, the enemy movement looks fluid and natural, once again an improvement of an idea presented in an earlier game (eg the Splicers from Bioshock). The AI is supposed to adapt to the player and differing scenarios, yet I’m none too hopeful as I’ve heard this phrase being used for years yet have never come across an AI where I have stopped and thought, ‘clever girl…’
Still, I am waiting for RAGE with bated breath as it looks to be a change from the usual CoD style shooters, and god knows we do need a change. You can check out the RAGE website here and see an earlier Beefjack news story here.

Hmm. I will undoubtedly buy Rage, but I’m really not sure I’m going to like it very much.

I’m kinda on the same boat, except that my hope for it is still alive and kicking.
I feel though it will have to be smothered if it becomes too excessive, just so I don’t have to deal with a case of the denial’s.
