Modern Warfare 3 PC dedicated servers will not be ranked

Modern Warfare 3′s dedicated servers on PC will be unranked, it has been confirmed.

A big blow to those looking to pick up the PC version of Modern Warfare 3, as it has been confirmed that dedicated servers – a huge benefit to PC players – will be unranked. This means that you will be unable to earn experience and level up unless you use the public matchmaking system.

The disappointing news was slipped in quietly in a fan Q&A on the Modern Warfare 3 community site. In response to a question on whether the game will feature both a server browser and matchmaking, Robert Bowling replied:

“Yes! In addition to the public matchmaking system for finding Ranked public games, you can use the in-game server browser to find and favorite unranked Dedicated Servers to join, which can be filtered by a number of options mentioned above.”

The disguised announcement made some members of the PC community see red in the comments section of the article, as some declared their intentions to cancel pre-orders. On the other hand, some feel it is the correct decision, which will prevent some exploiting the servers to boost their own ranks with ease.

The confirmation comes after weeks of silence and suspicious evasion of the question from Infinity Ward, which first gave us the idea that Modern Warfare 3′s dedicated servers may not be ranked.
