Miyamoto: Controls for Wii Version of Zelda will be ’More Accessible’

The control scheme for the next Wii game in the Zelda series has come up for discussion and Miyamoto himself has said that he wants to make the game ‘more accessible.’

The Nintendo icon has already talked about increasing accessibility in Mario Galaxy 2, and with the plans for revamping controls on the Wii spreading over to Zelda games, it’s becoming clear that Nintendo has still not found the perfect method for developing motion controls in their titles.

Miyamoto commented on the issue in a recent interview with German media outlet Gaming Media

For us, it is important to the to optimise gameplay and make the controls easier. We do our best to make the controls player friendly, since ‘Zelda’ has become complicated.

Two things are important: to meet expectations and to surprise people. How we do it this time, I will not reveal. Normally, we create the video sequences, and these sequences are expanded. But this time we started with the game structure. And then with the video sequences. So this time it was reversed. Therefore, we have had little so far from the game to show. But will publish a lot close to the game’s completion

Perhaps Miyamoto’s comments go to show that the revision of control schemes in new Wii titles is not solely based around making game’s easier to control, (although this is a major issue) but increasing game-play enjoyment throught the element of surprise. How exactly this will work, we can but wait to find out. However, more info is sure to come from E3 next month.
