Midway Arcade Origins bringing back coin-op classics
Anthony Shelton November 16, 2012 - 4:46 pmNews: Revisit arcade classics with Midway Arcade Origins, having more than 30 games on disc.

When talking to young-guns about the old arcade days of gaming, many them understand what it’s like to play standing up, staring into a screen embeded into an artful case. But most games they’re familiar with are fighting games, or maybe racing games that require players to sit down. But they don’t know what it’s like to play with only a few buttons and with graphics that are darn near made up of a few lines and characters constructed of a few pixels. Midway was a strong part of that scene, bringing in a bulk of arcade hits that are still fun today. Those classic games are coming to the Xbox 360 and PS3 in disc form.
Warner Bros. Interactive and Backbone Entertainment have released Midway Arcade Origins today in select independent stores. The game has already seen its US release (with a strange rating of T. What’s on this thing?), and the UK now gets hold of it.
Packaged in this piece of joy are games like Defender and its sequel, Joust and its sequel, Rampage, Gauntlet and its sequel, Total Carnage, 720, Arch Rivals, Spy Hunter and its sequel, Super Off Road, and others. There will be Xbox Achievement and PS3 Trophy support also.
The game can be purchased for $20 US, and £20 in the UK.
This is similar to the Midway Arcade Treasures series released on last-gen consoles, but this is more focused on some of the top Midway releases. Although I’d have to argue that Paperboy was an awesome game, and it doesn’t seem to be on this disc. Perhaps that’s my personal bias creeping out. Eh, whatever. There’s some desirable games on it.
