Marketing director of Microsoft France, Cedrick Delmas, has bluntly stated that there will be no new Xbox console this year.
As we continue to be bombarded by rumour after rumour surrounding next generation consoles, a representative for Microsoft France has flat out denied that the company will be releasing a new Xbox in 2012.
“We’re in an industry where people talk a lot and spread unfounded rumours. I’m not convinced anything is happening this year,” marketing director, Cedrick Delmas said in an interview with LePoint (translated by NeoGAF). “The cycle for the 360 is not over at all. Proof of that being that we do not intend to have a price drop this year.
“Apart from that, it’s too early to talk about E3 yet. What’s sure is that there’ll be nothing new in 2012,” he continued.
Unfortunately, “nothing new” isn’t clarified in the interview, so whilst we can assume Delmas means that there won’t be a new console release, we still could be in for an reveal of the next Xbox console some time this year.
Whatever the case, Microsoft will not rush an announcement just to compete with Nintendo‘s Wii U, as the companies have different goals.
“If we must counter Nintendo, we should be able to release something immediately, and that’s not the case. We’re not here to counter them and they’re not here to fight against other console makers. Nintendo has placed itself within a different cycle, they advance at their own pace, as success with the Wii has shown.”
