MechWarrior Online will be free-to-play, to be released “second half of 2012”

The long-awaited Mechwarrior will be free-to-play and sim-focused, aiming for a second half of 2012 release.

Mechwarrior, the mech equivalent of Duke Nukem Forever, will be released very soon according to PC Gamer. The now PC-exclusive title will be free-to-play.

Mech-tastic! (sorry)

Piranha Games told PC Gamer MechWarrior Online will be a team-based multiplayer battlemech sim that will be released “in the second half of 2012”.

Interestingly the game will take place in “real-time”, as events on each day will tell the story of the game’s fiction. Piranha Games Director Russ Bullock insisted the game was a focused Mech-sim saying “It’s fully first-person”.

With any hope this will be like the original Steel Battalion. I got to use this damn huge controller for something!

  1. I might have to check this out, I haven’t played a MechWarrior game in years.
