Mass Effect 3: Metacritic users slam game on all formats
Lewis Denby March 6, 2012 - 1:44 pmNews: Mass Effect 3 Metacritic user reviews slam the game on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, in scenes reminiscent of previous BioWare launch anger.

On Metacritic right now, you’ll find lots of highly praising Mass Effect 3 reviews from critics worldwide. But you’ll also find a lot of vitriol. In scenes reminiscent of those when Dragon Age II launched, user reviews on the site are overwhelmingly negative – and not just on the one format. Xbox 360, PS3 and PC user reviews all come in at somewhere in the 2/10 area, despite the game’s average critic score being among the highest of the year.
Among the criticism is – uh – not a great deal. Predictably, much of the hate centres on BioWare’s alleged ‘dumbing down’ of the RPG, even though this third game goes back to the first’s roleplaying roots in some respects. Other than that, lots of vague comments about how the developer is ‘ruining’ things and how the game is nondescriptly ‘bad’.
It would probably be reasonable to suggest some of these reviewers had already made up their minds…
Mass Effect 3 is out in North America today, and will hit the UK on Friday. Keep up to date with all the latest Mass Effect 3 news.

Lewis Denby,
Clearly, unlike a professional reporter you have not done any research at all. I suggest that you go to metacritic and actually take the time read those reviews that you have dismissed, as they DO contain reasons – A LOT of them in fact. I suggest that you grab a large cup of your favorite beverage and something to snack on because some of the gamer reviews are quite lengthy!
“unlike a professional reporter” – Oh, drop the attitude. Play nice.
It’s true that a lot of the criticism on Metacritic has improved to the point where it actually contains some substance (much of it is still just whining, it has to be said). This story was written on Tuesday, when it didn’t.
Fine, I apologize. As long as you are not dismissing out of hand those who are making legitimate complaints then all is well. I take it that you did notice some of those 10/10 ratings clearly admit they haven’t even played the game
Legitimate complaints are fine, although there are plenty of people who are taking it to real extremes (the fact that members of the dev team are being called all manner of names on Twitter because people didn’t like the endings isn’t cool, for example). But there’s a trend for people to flock to places like Metacritic to shout about things they’ve already decided before playing. This includes both 0/10 reviews and 10/10 reviews, but it’s the ones at the low end that were far more common, and pulling the rating down, which is why this became the story.
Well a story about it is a good thing as perhaps it will put some pressure on Bioware, provided that story takes all sides into account
Your right in that name calling won’t accomplish anything…well nothing good anyway.
Metacritic is not the only place disgruntled fans are venting on. Bioware’s own forums are blazing with this. There is a poll by one of the users there with 87% of voters asking for new endings, 10% are fine with the endings as long as the Normandy stays on earth, and 3% saying they are fine as is. Thus far the poll has 15750 votes.
