Man versus dinosaur, Primal Carnage enters open beta

News: The multiplayer focused PC game, Primal Carnage, has just entered open beta and now anyone who pre-orders the game can immediately get into the action.

Games about dinosaurs are rare because they are usually very risky and quite difficult to design, but they always are after unique gameplay and Primal Carnage may be able to deliver. Lukewarm Media has been designing this dinosaur versus human multiplayer game for quite some time and it is finally nearing completion. There is no set release date and they are merely aiming for a Fall 2012 release, but pre-orders are now open and it gives you immediate access to the beta on Steam.

Primal Carnage features two teams battling it out on five large open environments. There are ten unique classes, five for humans and five for dinosaurs, and each team provides a vastly different play style, which is of course what you want when one of the teams is made up of dinosaurs. Human players will go through the game in first person, while dinosaurs are in third person and they have devastating attacks that can tear through a fleshly human fairly quickly. So, humans do generally need to stick together and the dinosaur team can tactically work together to pick off stragglers. The dinosaurs also have the advantage of air, with the Pteranodon class that acts as a scout and quick strike unit.

Personally, I’m always scared of games like this, especially after being immensely disappointed by Dino D-Day and Orion: Dino Beatdown, but I’m hoping that Primal Carnage manages to get everything right for once.  The open beta is available through Steam for anyone who pre-orders and they have the game available for pre-order through GamersgateSteamRainGamestop and directly from the website. I leave you with the newest gameplay trailer that Lukewarm has uploaded.
