Lollipop Chainsaw: “Please pay attention to the love story,” says Suda 51

News: Lollipop Chainsaw is a “love-action” game, says creator Suda 51, who asks that people pay attention to the game’s bizarre story of a girl’s relationship with the severed head of her boyfriend.

In Lollipop Chainsaw, the super-crazy new game from Grasshopper Manufacture, your character Juliet carries around the severed head of her boyfriend. But he’s more than just a game mechanics, and he’s not even just there to add to the surreal vibes. According to creator Goichi “Suda 51″ Suda, that severed head is crucial to the game’s oddly romantic story.

“There’s a love story element to it,” he said. “Please pay attention to that love story.”

Speaking in a video interview with GameZone, recorded at the weekend’s PAX East, Suda cast his game into a new genre. “It’s a good combination of love story and action,” he said. “This is a ‘love action’ game.”

And he seemed hugely excited about the way that storytelling wraps up. “You really have to see the ending,” he enthused. “Please pay attention to the ending.”

BeefJack’s own interview with Suda 51 will be on the site soon, along with a hands-on preview of Lollipop Chainsaw. While it’s barmier than you could possibly imagine, it’s also a great deal of fun. Keep your eyes peeled for your full impressions.
