Lollipop Chainsaw designed “so that girls can play zombie games”

News: “All the girls in the world love glitter and shiny things,” jokes Suda 51 as he explains how he wanted to make Lollipop Chainsaw a zombie game for girls.

Ah, Goichi Suda. We do love you so. The visionary designer behind all sorts of weird and wonderful games, also known as “Suda 51″, is currently hard at work finishing Lollipop Chainsaw, a zombie love story featuring chainsaws and cheerleaders.

It’s a “pop” game, says Suda. BeefJack’s Patrick Lindsey asked him at PAX East what this meant, and his answer was… well, it was this:

“A lot of people like zombie movies and horror movies, but are afraid because they’re too scary. So for those people, I wanted to make a ‘horror movie’ that is not scary. That’s why we put a lot of rainbows and hearts in it, to make it fun.

“We wanted to make it light and poppy, so that girls could play zombie games. You know, all the girls in the world love glitter and shiny things.”

A horror game for girls, huh? Suda 51′s eccentricity makes it difficult to know when to take him seriously, but I think it’s safe to assume his tongue is lodged firmly in cheek for this one.

Lollipop Chainsaw hits PS3 and Xbox 360 this June. We’ll have our hands-on impressions, plus our full interview with Suda, on the site very soon.
