Videogames legend Ian Livingstone OBE, Life President of Eidos and founder of Games Workshop, has declared that he’ll never retire from being “a champion of the industry”.

Ian Livingstone OBE has enjoyed an enviable career. After co-founding Games Workshop in 1975, Livingstone joined a newly formed Eidos, where he went on to gain the title of Life President. Since then he’s been a major champion of games and has produced a government report on the industry.
Does Livingstone, now 61, ever see his career as a games industry champion coming to a close? Not a chance, he told BeefJack at the recent Extended Play Interactive festival.
“No, no,” he responded when asked if he would ever truly retire.
“Games have been my life,” he explained. “I turned a hobby into an industry – I love what we’ve created. I love the people in the industry. And I want to see it grow forever.
“So you’re never too young to start and you’re never too old to stop – and I’m never going to stop, because if I stop being a champion of the industry, I wouldn’t want to be playing the games. I really enjoy what I do and I will continue to fight for the cause.”
Extended Play Interactive 2011, a development conference and festival in the South East of England, took place over the weekend. BeefJack’s Emily King was there – and you’ll be able to read her full interview with Ian Livingstone on the site soon!
