Bungie will hand all responsibility for Halo stats and player records over to 343 Industries on March 31st, ending their association with the franchise that made their name.
Mark March 31st in your diaries: that’s the day when Bungie will finally say goodbye to the Halo franchise after over a decade of incredible success.
On that date the transition of responsibility for Halo data such as game stats, player service records, user-generated content and the Bungie Pro service to 343 Industries will be complete, and Bungie will no longer be involved in any way in the continuing upkeep of all Halo titles.
The official Bungie site notes that “Any replacement functionality, and all future Halo support, will be provided by Microsoft and 343 Industries via Halo Waypoint at http://halo.xbox.com.”
They did promise though that “Bungie will preserve all existing historical Halo data on Bungie.net for as long as the Internet and Bungie’s data storage systems remain functional” and signed off on the franchise whose unbelievable success boosted them into the development A-list – and a 10 year deal with Activision to boot – thus:
“Thanks for making the Halo-era version of Bungie.net more successful than we could have possibly imagined. You complete us. See you starside.”
Go on, admit it: there’s a little part of you shedding a tear right now.
