Guardians of Middle-Earth – MOBA Mastery video armours up

News: The fourth in a series of brief demonstrations, the latest Guardians of Middle-earth MOBA mastery video demonstrates load-outs and how we can tweak our character’s statistics.

MOBA is not only a pretty ugly acronym, it does it a pretty poor job of explaining exactly what the genre is. ‘Multiplayer online battle arena’ somehow translates to running up and down a lane killing little minions, attempting to destroy defensive structures, while dancing around a human opponent (and their own character) trying to avoid looking them in the eye. Eventually when eye contact is made, you spend the next 10 or so minutes trying to probe each others defenses, or wait for a teammate to come along and gang up on them for a kill. After writing this paragraph attempting to explain the gameplay accurately, I can see why they gave up and stuck with MOBA.

However difficult the genre is to summarise, there’s one thing about these games that is undeniable – they are extremely popular. Riot Games say League of Legends is the most played multi-player game in the world. So it seems obvious that holders of already popular franchises would hitch themselves to the MOBA wagon (not to mention drive that wagon down the dusty trail to consoleville) and here we have another video for the Lord of the Rings themed Guardians of Middle-Earth, where you’ll get to play as Gandalf, Sauron and Gollum among others as they inhabit those lanes and farm gold like true heroes (or villains, or tragic fisher-folk corrupted by magical rings of power). Presumably Sauron will be nerfed heavily, or the game could end up just a little unbalanced.

We’ll keep you up to date with the latest news on Guardians of Middle-Earth here at Beefjack as and when we hear it. As previously reported the game is due out on 7th December on PS3 and 360.
