GTA V on Wii U? Take-Two “looking at it seriously”

Rockstar games such as the Grand Theft Auto series could well feature on the Wii U, according to Take-Two’s CEO – and it might be because of Carnival Games of all things.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has made some interesting comments on the possibility of Rockstar’s blockbuster titles coming to Nintendo’s upcoming home console, the Wii U.

Talking to Forbes, Zelnick was asked outright whether Rockstar titles (and other Take-Two owned publisher 2K) would be arriving for the Wii U. Zelnick answered: “We’ll see. We are looking at it seriously and at the relationship with Nintendo.”

Of course, it wouldn’t be a first for a GTA title to appear on a Nintendo platform – the well-received Chinatown Wars came out for DS several years ago – but Zelnick’s enthusiasm for working with Nintendo seems to have a surprising origin:

“We have supported the Wii and it has worked for us. We have done Carnival Games for the Wii. They [Nintendo] support the platform and they were pretty excited about what they have seen.”

However, as always, cold market factors will decide if games such as Grand Theft Auto or Red Dead Redemption become a fixture on the Wii U: “It will not be driven by me pounding the table saying do it, it will be driven by economic opportunity and creative opportunity.”

Rumours suggest Grand Theft Auto V is penned in for 2012 release – perfect timing for the launch of the Wii U.
