Gotham City Imposters, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Monolith’s DC Universe-based multiplayer shooter, will launch on January 10th next year with an open beta starting in December.

The iconic battle between Batman and The Joker takes a drastic turn towards violence in Gotham City Imposters, with teams donning interesting takes on the rival’s costumes and fighting it out in 4 vs 4 multiplayer chaos. Warner Bros. has just announced that we’ll be able to jump into the fray ourselves on PC, Xbox LIVE Arcade and PSN from January 10th, 2012.

With its quirky attitude and visual-style, you’ll be able to fight with both conventional weapons and some more obscure gadgets, including Jack-in-the-Box grenades. A variety of traditional multiplayer first person shooter game modes are also expected, such as your typical deathmatch and also a weird spin on Capture-the-Flag.

Warner and Monolith also confirmed the plans for an open beta on PC, which is set to begin sometime in December. If you head over to the official site now, you’ll be able to sign up, as there are limited spaces available.

After you’ve done that, why not watch one of the game’s early trailers to give you some idea of the game and its tone.

We’ll be sure to bring you any more Gotham City Imposters news as soon as we hear it too.
