GameStop cuts PlayStation 3 price to $199

Retailer GameStop has dropped the price of Sony’s PlayStation 3 from $249 to $199. The retail giant is offering this online deal along with either Batman: Arkham City or Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition.
For UK gamers, The PlayStation 3 is currently priced £159.99 in the UK Amazon store and £187.97 on GameStop’s UK website. Amazon’s PS3 deal is generous, but what’s with all the hate for the UK, GameStop?
A Sony representative told GamesIndustry.Biz that the sale price was just a “temporary GameStop promotion”.
GameStop are also promoting a PS Vita deal, where you get a free game and carry case if you buy one of the new Sony handhelds.
With E3 a few weeks away, a price drop seems like a strange choice by retailers. Could they be just getting rid of dead stock?
I’ve always got an eye on PlayStation 3 deals, especially recently as Journey seems like an unmissable experience. Who doesn’t love scarf physics?!
