News: Steam boss Gabe Newell casts a critical eye on EA’s Origin in an interview with the Seven Day Cooldown podcast.

In a recent interview caught by Eurogamer, Steam’s Gabe Newell had some critical things to say about EA‘s Steam-like platform, Origin. Newell stated that EA “have a bunch of smart people working on [Origin] but I think they’re still playing catch up to a lot of people who have been working in the space for a while.” According to Newell, EA still “have a lot of work to do to get to where they need to be and where I as a customer would want them to be.”

A few recent issues put Origin in a bad light: Origin is responsible for the accidental leak of the Crysis 3 announcement and for rendering Mass Effect 3 “unplayable” when it first came out. But there must be something that Origin does really well, right? Not according to Newell: “I don’t think they’re doing anything super-well yet.”
