Former Sony exec Phil Harrison to replace Molyneux at Microsoft

News: Microsoft will reportedly announce Peter Molyneux’s replacement later today – and it’s Phil Harrison, the well-known former executive of rival company Sony.

If I’d have drawn up a list of possible replacements for Peter Molyneux, who left Microsoft last week, then Phil Harrison probably wouldn’t have been on the list. But according to reports, here he is. And that news is awesome.

Phil Harrison, for those who don’t know, was the open-minded and forward-thinking Sony exec who discovered the likes of Media Molecule and helped get LittleBigPlanet the attention it deserved.

Harrison also became known for his enigmatic speeches and his vocal belief in his company’s brand.

Outside of Sony, Harrison has also served on the board at Atari, as well as at London Venture Partners, a specialist in games investment. He’ll join Microsoft as head of European games development, GamesIndustry International reports.

This could spell exciting times.
